Lakeside Academy of Therapeutic Massage is located at 14 South Elm Street in Zeeland, Michigan – a small town that provides an inviting setting for learning & living. Zeeland is just minutes away from the west shore of Lake Michigan which makes a relaxing retreat on the weekends.
MISSION STATEMENT:
Our mission is to help prepare each student for a rewarding and successful career in the field of massage therapy. We understand it is our responsibility to see each student as a unique person. We strive to present a curriculum that accommodates individual learning styles. Our goal is to encourage personal development and a respectful opinion about themselves and others. This in turn will allow our students to respect and empathize with those whom they see as clients.
- Bruce Pommerening CMT Dean of Education; apprenticed three years in his fathers massage therapy practice during which time he trained in the Ingham Method of Foot Reflexology. Bruce then received an accumulative 2450 hours of training at the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy in Ontario Canada and through personal interning with Edith Szasz Dean of CCMH. He has over 250 hours of continuing education which includes Neuromuscular Therapy, Myofascial Release, CranioSacral Therapy, Mobilization Therapy, Chronic Pain Management, & Lymphatic Drainage Therapy. Bruce has practiced in the Holland / Zeeland area for the past 29 years and continues to maintain a private practice where he specializes in Palliative, Neuromuscular, CranioSacral & Myofascial therapies. He is a third generation Massage Therapist.
- Grace Pommerening RN, ADN, BA Program Coordinator & part-time instructor; is a graduate of Spring Arbor University, and Jackson Community College. Grace has 2 years experience in Medical/Surgical nursing, 18 years experience in O.B. nursing, 4 years as an Internationally Certified Lactation Consultant, and 4 years experience in Home Health Care. Grace is currently a Care Manager at Holland Community Hospital.
- Warren Pommerening RMT Guest Speaker; has been practicing Massage Therapy & Reflexology for the past 61 years during which time he has accumulated over 1,150,000 hours of practice. Mr. Pommerening was head of Physical Therapy at Camp Lejeune Marine Base during the Korean War, was personally trained by Eunice Ingham in Foot Reflexology, & is Past President of the Michigan Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association. Mr. Pommerening was a pioneer in state law and licensing for massage therapists in the state of Michigan during the 1950s and ‘60s.
- Sandra Nichols NCETMB part-time instructor; has been practicing Massage Therapy for 6 years and is Nationally Certified in therapeutic massage & bodywork. Sandra has taken continuing education in Myofascial therapy, CranioSacral Therapy & related courses.
